Tyra Banks to teach business class at Stanford University
She will teach for two weeks come May 2017.
Sign us up! Tyra Banks has a new gig as a guest lecturer at Stanford University.
If that sounds like a breeze, students should consider that homework-in the form of a 1:30 video explaining what you want your brand to be-will be due before the first session.
Among other coursework, would-be mini-Tyras will be asked to consider the following: “What is a personal brand and how can it be unleashed as a valuable, competitive advantage?” The former model has also said that when she is dealing with college level students, her big goal is to basically keep them off of their cell phones. “If I see somebody not paying attention, I’m gonna call on them”, she tells The Wall Street Journal. Alongside Stanford lecturer Allison Kluger, a former TV exec, Banks will teach a class of 25 students all about cultivating and sustaining a brand identity through social and traditional media. She herself also got a degree from Harvard’s business school in September.
“I was mesmerized”, said Ms. Kluger, who teaches courses in leadership and communication.
But before you roll your eyes and dismiss Banks as another James Franco, consider that few people are more qualified than the modelpreneur to give a series of lectures on branding. She recently launched a cosmetic line. The beauty company makes use of multi-level marketing system in recruiting sales distributors whom they call “beautytrainers”. And as a model, television personality and entrepreneur, Banks has definitely had extensive experience in personal branding throughout her career.
Tyra opened up about her fertility difficulties a year ago when she hosted John Legend’s wife, model Chrissy Teigen, to talk about the same issue on her TV show.
