Tyrese takes ‘Black Rose’ to No. 1
Almost 17 years after he made his Billboard chart debut, the singer/actor has landed his first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 with his latest offering, “Black Rose“.
Gibson, who goes by the stage name Tyrese, sold 83,000 copies of Black Rose, according to Nielsen Music.
The sales for the first week of “Black Rose” soared to the top with 86,000 equivalent album units in sales, which surpassed Tyrese’s previous album sales for the first week of his 2011 album “Open Invitation”.
“Black Rose” marks the sixth solo album for the artist, also an actor known as Tyrese Gibson and a star in the “Fast and Furious” film franchise. The newest Kidz Bop launch, Kidz Bop 29, debuts at #four. His marketing stunts seemed to have no limits – and no matter how awkward – he relentlessly self-promoted the album to ensure its success.
British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran’s “X” came in at No. 5 after 55 weeks on the chart.
Jamaican singer OMI has the week’s most-downloaded track for a second week, with Cheerleader. The change follows a music industry-wide switch to Friday record releases earlier this month.
