Tyrod Taylor impresses on way to win
Fast forward nine months later, and he got just that and more as his Bills (1-0) beat down the Indianapolis Colts (0-1) in their season opening 27-14 win this afternoon at Ralph Wilson Stadium.
“It’s great to get a win”.
“We said it all along”, Ryan said. “It was unbelievable. You could barely hear yourself think or anything else”. He played the role of shutdown corner in this game. “But I trust my team”. The Bills dominated Indianapolis from start to finish, as their defense flustered Andrew Luck, and Tyrod Taylor led an explosive offensive attack.
“They threw everything but the kitchen sink at us”, Colts coach Chuck Pagano said. “It’s not like we’re just now preparing for them“.
“They made more plays than us”. The first was by rookie Ronald Darby and led to the Bills’ opening score on Harvin’s touchdown.
The Buffalo Bills defense had a blow on the first play from scrimmage. “I’m sure it’s a combination of a bunch of things”. A 2-point conversion passed slipped through his hands, as did Luck’s final throw of the game, which wound up being intercepted.
Just like the offense, the defense had struggles of their own, which wasn’t unexpected by any means. This despite missing all-pro defensive tackle Marcell Dareus, cornerback Leodis McKelvin, and then losing starting safety Corey Graham to a possible concussion on the first play of the game. I thought the guys for the most part did a good job, but we did have some blown assignments in there. Repeatedly. The Colts will probably be fine – they play the bad AFC South six times, after all – but they looked soft on Sunday, and that’s one of the big criticisms of them.
The offense was no slouch either.
“It was everything that I kind of envisioned it would be”, said Taylor, who’s first touchdown was a 51-yard bomb to Percy Harvin, who graduated from Landstown High School in Virginia Beach. The Colts have 149 yards and 9 first downs but absolutely nothing to show for it on the scoreboard.
“We said all along you can ignore practices and you can ignore film if you want, but we know who he is”, Ryan said. Plus, kicker Adam Vinatieri missed his only field goal attempt, adding to this grade.
Nigel Bradham was one of the stars of the game on defense.
“I don’t think there’s ever been anything negative about Taylor”, Belichick said during a conference call yesterday. “I’m excited for the team”. We got their cadence down because of the crowd.
“No it’s not about me”.
“We didn’t play the way we’re capable of playing. The Bills ran 36 times for 147 yards and two touchdowns”.
The Bills first second half possession ended with a Boobie Dixon one-yard touchdown run putting the Bills ahead 24-0.
“There’s just no sugarcoating it. The Colts were physically outclassed by the Bills“.
Luck could easily attempt 15 more passes than that, so even if he is simply as good as the Manziel/McCown combo, he should end up with around 300 yards.
In the fourth, the Bills recovered a muffled punt return which resulted in another Dan Carpenter field goal.
On the ensuring Colts drive, Aaron Williams was able to haul in an interception to kill whatever small chance Indianapolis still had remaining.
However, looking at the AFC South, the Colts are big favorites to win the division title this year, and it would be hard to see either the Houston Texans, Tennessee Titans, or the Jacksonville Jaguars getting anywhere near them. Rex had his father Buddy, one of the greatest defensive coordinators in the game’s long history, in attendance.
