Tyson Fury defeats Wladimir Klitschko to become new world heavyweight boxing
After losing a point, Fury admitted that he would not be able to come back and win the fight. They were pretty much all 6ft 1in, 6ft 2in heavyweights just coming forward looking to land power shots. He bloodied Klitschko’s face, who at the end had a hard time keeping his left eye open.
It looked to be plane sailing but alarm bells were raised in the 11th when Fury was docked a point by referee Tony Weeks for a punch to the back of the head.
The fight started in typically cagey fashion, with both Wladimir and Tyson feeling each other out in the first three rounds.
The world of boxing has taken to Twitter to congratulate the new champion.
Fury half-landed a right hook which had the champion going backwards.
After a Nine Year reign as Heavyweight Champion, Vladamir “Dr. Steelhammer” Klitschko (64-4, 53KOs) lost a unanimous decision to Tyson Fury (25-0, 18KOs) at the Esprit Arena in Dusseldorf, Germany. They demanded the champion cut them off and start again, delaying the start. Fury is a decent fighter but this one was more about Wladimir’s complete ineptitude.
This was just the latest controversy to hit the run-up to the fight with Fury initially rejecting gloves offered by Klitschko and demanding changes. The challenger has got the better of the exchanges with some of his jabs finding its mark. And the punches he did throw were cringeworthy. The atmosphere is insane with the champ walking out to Red Hot Chili Peppers’ song Can’t Stop.
Many scribes noted the confidence and skills of “Gypsy King” Tyson Fury, but believed Klitschko’s superior experience would carry the day for the Ukraine superstar.
Klitschko’s last loss was in 2004 against American Lamon Brewster, who knocked out the Ukrainian in five rounds to win the WBO heavyweight title.
He now holds the WBA, IBF and WBO titles, reports ESPN.
Whether Wilder gets a unification fight with Fury will also depend on whether Fury and his management wants that fight or not. “I was well prepared for this fight but he was quick for his height”. “Congratulations Tyson Fury. Britain could dominate this division”.
