Tyson Fury v Wladimir Klitschko
To say it was his first world title opportunity against a vastly experienced fighter, you could have been fooled as Fury had a swagger about him in the opening exchanges, with the second round slightly more even than the first but Fury looked in control.
Tyson Fury shocked the world tonight at the Esprit Arena in Dusseldorf, Germany. Fury isn’t only using his physical superiority over Klitschko but he is also gaining psychological advantage with his non-stop verbal attack to get Klitschko agitated leading up to the fight.
At the final bell, the 27-year-old raised his arms in triumph and the Ukrainian was noticeably slow to follow suit.
“Maybe it was just a bad night and I’m quite sure Wladimir will take the rematch chance and show the world who the real Wladimir Klitschko is”.
“Japan, Turkey, Azerbaijan, America – wherever it has to be, it has to be”.
Klitschko’s brother Vitali, the Ukrainian politician and former professional boxer, who now serves as Mayor of Kiev was at the fight. Let’s laugh at his name, shall we?
“Wladimir Klitschko was the number one in the division”. Probably the pound-for-pound king, whatever that means.
“I’m just a man, made of blood and bone and I’ve achieved the ultimate in my sport”. I could take both the Klitschkos out now but the money is wrong and the TV deals are wrong. But none of his previous 24 wins came against anyone such as his 39-year-old opponent who has now a record of 64-4 with 53 Kos, reports Boxing Scene.
“I congratulate Tyson. He won the fight”.
Fury constantly tried to unsettle Klitschko during the build up to the fight, with posts on Twitter and comments to the press about how he was going to crush Klitschko.
The Mancunian, a 4/1 underdog, baffled Klitschko with a stylish, measured performance in which he utilised his height and youth perfectly to earn a superb win with scores of 115-112 twice and 116-111 despite being deducted a point for fouling.
“It was very emotional in the ring, I was riding a high way, it was an awesome feeling”, he told The Telegraph.
“If I could be half as good a champion as Wladimir Klitschko I would be very, very happy”.
Vladimir Klitschko has been knocked off his throne as the World Heavyweight Champion.
“This is a dream come true”, he said. The Briton opened a cut under Klitschko’s right eye in the fifth round and proceeded to control the rest of the fight.
“I’ve not been given anything for free”. All the hard work has been rewarded.
Klitschko started defensively and could not get out of his shell from the first round.
He thanked promoter Mick Hennessy after the bout, calling their relationship “the Jerry Maguire story” after both were roundly written off, per Anderson: “Everybody wrote us off and said we had no choice”.
