U-19 WC: Sri Lanka bowls out Pakistan for 212
An all round performance by Pakistan’s Hasan Mohsin helped his side beat Sri Lanka by 23 runs in their Under-19 Cricket World Cup match at Mirpur on Wednesday, ARY News reported.
Both Pakistan and Sri Lanka have already qualified for the quarter-finals after their victories against Afghanistan and Canada. Mohsin came in with the score on 70 for three in the 20th over, and he was ninth out in the 49th over, having hit eight fours and a six.
Thilan Nimesh, Wanidu de Silva and Damitha Silva took three wickets for Sri Lanka. The Sri Lanka bowlers however never allowed partnerships to take hold, claiming regular wickets, and only Mohsin’s innings enabled Pakistan to cross 200.
Pakistan will face West Indies in the quarterfinal at Khan Saheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah on February 8 while Sri Lanka to meet England in another quarterfinal match at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on 7 February.
Mohsin top-scored with 86 and then rattled Sri Lanka with two early wickets as Pakistan fought back after being dismissed for 212 to bowl their rivals out for 189.
Mendis gave away 21 runs in four wicketless overs.
Sri Lanka was reduced to 63-4 before Mendis, who bats left-handed, scored 68 and Vishad Randika made 46 while adding 84 for the fifth wicket. Sameen Gul, Mohsin and Ahmad Shafiq shared six wickets between them.
Apart from his individual score, Mohsin pairing with Salman Fayyaz contributed 84runs in 19.4 overs.
