U.S. companies donate 6 million bottles of water to MI

A lawsuit filed in federal court on Wednesday alleges MI officials failed to deliver safe drinking water to the citizens of Flint in violation of the Safe Drinking Water Act.

Much of the blame for the emergency has been put on the state Department of Environmental Quality because staff told Flint water officials not to treat it for corrosion until after two six-month monitoring periods. “We need those pipes replaced, and not a single pipe has been replaced since they discovered lead in the water”.

Among those appointed to the committee is Virginia Tech University professor Marc Edwards, the researcher who conducted numerous tests on Flint’s water system and was the first to publicly identify high levels of lead.
Governor Rick Snyder has scrubbed plans for an economic development trip to the Middle East, so he can remain in MI to deal with the Flint water crisis. A state plan to save $15 million on Flint’s water bills may now cost $1.5 billion in clean-up, Moore said in his online petition for help from President Barack Obama.
Although Flint returned to Detroit water in October, the lead risk remains because of damage to the water distribution system. The state took over the city’s budget and chose to temporarily switch Flint’s water source from Lake Huron to the Flint River to save money.
