U.S. finally gets Sony’s Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Compact
In October 2015, the Xperia M4 Aqua was included in the list of all the Xperia phones that will get the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update.
The Xperia Z5 series made its official debut four months ago in Taiwan, then rolled out in Europe just two weeks later. Some other devices for which Sony will introduce the update in the near future include- Xperia Z4 Tablet, Xperia M4, Xperia C4, Xperia Z3+, Xperia Z3, Xperia Z2, Xperia Z3 Compact, Xperia 2 Tablet, Xperia M5 and Xperia C5 Ultra.
Rest of the specifications are nearly the same, there’s 32GB of internal storage, 23MP camera for photos and videos, a Snapdragon 810 processor, a 5.1MP front-facing camera and ships with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop pre-installed out of the box.
It seems that Sony is willing to leave the Android UI untouched, as there are more and more users who prefer it that way. LG has already started rolling out the latest OS update for T-Mobile’s LG G4.
The report also mentioned that aside from Sony Mobile making an Xperia C6 announcement at the MWC, the tech giant is also said to be focusing on the Xperia Z5 lineup first. The long-term impact of that decision has yet to be determined, but here in the short-term, Sony has a couple of slick new handsets it’s shipping to USA customers-the Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Compact, both of which are unlocked.
Sony smartphone fans may be disappointed to learn however that the fingerprint scanning technology available on the Z5 models sold outside the United States will be on offer. They will also have fingerprint scanners and QHD panels, so there’s really not a great reason to opt for the Z5’s unless you really like the style, software or just don’t care about top-tier specs. Moto X Play phones recently recieved the update and it looks like Sony Mobile is getting ready to join those ranks.
