U.S. men’s curling awarded wrong medals after winning gold
Shuster brushed it off: “A gold medal in curling is a gold medal in curling”.
Just this year, the Mankato Curling Club have added 50 new members, with 30 individuals last night trying the sport for the very first time.
“In the round robins, it was a bit pressure because we were not used to play games with big crowd”, the skip – who has adopted the moniker “Yogurt” – said afterward, according to Reuters. “I let my wife say everything she could possibly say to talk me off ledge”.
“I told Matt, “I think it’s a dream – I’ll wake up tomorrow and this might not be real”. The U.S. led 5-4 through six ends of play. As for medal standings, Norway came out on top with 14 gold, 14 silver and 11 bronze followed by Germany and Canada. “It taints the Olympic experience”.
But here, it was a different story. Shuster knocks out two Swedish stones to put up a five-spot when the game was tied 5-5. They lost twice to the United States.
Roach said one of the most special parts of belonging to the curling community is knowing how hard guys like United States of America.
“There’s no way to sugarcoat it”, Hebert said. “We’ll never forget where we came from and we’ll keep the mindset of a challenger”.
The win for Team USA was extraordinarily unlikely given prior struggles in the games. They won the Scotties.
Sarah Huckabee Sanders also tweeted congratulations to the men’s curling team.
“I don’t think there’s any pressure, but I’ve never been in this situation before”, U.S. second Matt Hamilton said. “Any medal is a good medal”. “We had some really great games and a shot here or there was the difference”.
Yes, the gentlemen initially received the wrong medals, ones stamped out for the American women’s curling team, who did not advance to the curling final showdown. She became the first woman to win gold in two sports at the same Winter Olympics, further confusing everyone wondering whether to call her a skier or a snowboarder. And the men representing the country dedicated themselves for years to becoming the best at it and ended up actually being the best – not only in the United States, but in the world. And Switzerland captured bronze.
Unlike South Korea, Sweden has had a solid presence in women’s curling.
It was only after the ceremony that four of those five USA curlers realized they were wearing medals meant for the winners of the women’s competition.
