U.S. military to sound out Canada’s new government on jets, Iraq
Recently seen in Canada trick-or-treating with his wife and young children, Trudeau is 26 years younger than the Sultan of Brunei, at 69 the eldest of the 21 leaders of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum, which is meeting in the Philippine capital this week.
“This is the first bilateral visit for Mr. Trudeau as Prime Minister, and it’s to the United Kingdom And that’s unusual – it’s usually down south”, British High Commissioner Howard Drake said.
“He’s so hot!” one woman shrieks during the report below, as a group of others nearby giggle uncontrollably.
“Canada will and must remain a strong member of the coalition”, Trudeau said after a meeting with US President Barack Obama on the sidelines of a trade summit in Manila.
But the younger Trudeau is known for his own eccentric outbursts (one of his favourite practical jokes involves throwing himself down sets of stairs) and he has made a name for himself reclaiming Canada’s liberal heritage.
Pierre Trudeau “spent a great deal of energy strengthening and enhancing Canada’s relationship with Asian countries and likewise I do trust that you will serve the cause of peace and prosperity in the Asia Pacific as well”, Park told the prime minister.
“On a personal level, when I first announced I was going into politics 8 years ago, there was a little bit of buzz and interest in my father and my story”.
He says this year’s leaders’ retreat should be an incubator of ideas that will improve the region’s prospects for the future, leaving a “world that is better than what we found”. I’m strongly considering purchasing the “dreamy Trudeau” sweater, mostly out of novelty, but also because I’m hopeful that Canada can move in a positive direction under the Liberals. Since the Paris attacks, the British Prime Minister has spoken about stepping up air strikes on the Islamic State, including asking Parliament to approve expanding the strikes from Iraq to Syria.
“One of the things about growing up somewhat in the public eye is that I had to develop a capacity to separate people’s perceptions of me from who I really am”.
“The prime minister’s response to the crisis has been to lash himself to the mast of his election commitments on refugees and to withdraw our CF-18s from the allied bombing campaign”, said Fen Hampson, director of the global security program at the Centre for worldwide Governance Innovation.
“Canadians right across the country, as well as our friends and neighbours internationally in many countries, have felt that Canada hasn’t been doing enough on the environmental front”, he said as Obama looked on.
“We will not allow terrorism to threaten the fundamental values that underpin our free and open economies”, they said.
“When you won, a lot of people thought it was a moment of change, not only for Canada”, he said.
Trudeau said he wanted to “reassure Canadians and others that we are serious about meeting our emissions reductions targets”.
Meanwhile, China has called on the U.S. not to get involved in the South China Sea disputes.
“Frankly, I think that’s a big part of what these summits are about”, he said.
