U.S. Postal Service issues Pluto, New Horizons stamp
The image of Pluto on the stamps is composted from actual photos taken by NASA which is also the case with these – more traditional but just as handsome – planet stamps.
The stamp features a contemplative photograph of the expansive cornfields near Milford in the northern part of the state.
The eight planets of the solar system set features brightly colored images captured at the NASA planetarium.
The stamps are among a slate of new designs that the Postal Service just announced will be released in the coming year. In 2015 the spacecraft carried the stamp on its history-making mission to Pluto and beyond. The stamps were created by the design firm Heads of State under the art direction of Antonio Alcala. Some show the planets’ “true color” – what we might see if traveling through space.
“Since the early 1990s the old, ‘Pluto Not Explored” stamp served as a rallying cry for many who wanted to mount this historic mission of space exploration’.
The verso text, or text on the back of the stamp pane, explains what these images reveal and identifies the spacecrafts and powerful telescopes that helped obtain them.

The agency will debut a quartet of “Star Trek” stamps honoring the original TV show’s 50th anniversary.
‘From Mercury to Neptune, Pluto and Star Trek, it’s exciting to see that planetary science and space exploration are being celebrated in these new 2016 stamps’.
Among the references that will be immediately recognizable to Trekkies are the silhouette of the Enterprise inside the the outline of the Vulcan salute (Spock’s iconic hand gesture).
