U2 cancel Paris concert after terror attacks
Paris: Irish rock band U2’s upcoming concert here has been cancelled following the terror attack in the French capital. “And we hope and pray that all of our fans in Paris are safe”, the band said. “At first we thought it was part of the show but we quickly understood”, said radio presenter Pierre Janaszak who was sitting in the balcony with his sister and friends when they heard shots from below about an hour into the concert. “If you think about it, the majority of victims last night are music fans”. Apart from the concert hall, terror attacks also took place in Paris’s 10th Arrondissement and near the Stade de France, where France was hosting Germany in a football friendly.
“You know, I’m telling you the truth, but this is the coolest job in the world”, Hughes said, sitting next to Homme.
“Our first thoughts at this point are with the Eagles of Death Metal fans…” And it’s very upsetting.
HBO acknowledged the band’s statement (the movie Jersey Boys will run during that time slot Saturday night starting at 9 p.m.). “I think music is very important and that U2 has a role to play”.
Bono then told a story about visiting a 2003 music festival in the desert of Timbuktu, Mali, in western Africa.
The U2 concert was scheduled to air on HBO Saturday at 9 p.m. A second show at the same venue, the AccorHotels Arena, is scheduled for Sunday, but it’s unclear if the band will play.
The November 14 concert was canceled “as a result of the ongoing state of emergency across France”, said the announcement. “I went back home to reassure my children”.
“We came through the back door of the hotel everyone congregated and watched the TV like everybody else with disbelief as to what was happening”.
After seeing this incident happened in Paris, U2 members were chose to postpone the concert, which is to be held on Saturday night. And that’s the feeling we’re getting from fans: “‘These (terrorists) will not set our agenda; they’ll not organize our lives for us”.
