U2 Fans Boo Woman Who Called 911 After Bono’s Bike Crash
Now, you’d think that all the New York U2 fans would cheer her, but actually, the opposite happened.
Simon joined U2 onstage at Madison Square Garden to sing a few of his music, “Mother and Child Reunion”. Bono has appeared at events for the Clinton Foundation, while Springsteen helped induct U2 into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2005 and stepped in for Bono at a show last year when the singer was still recovering from a bicycle accident in Central Park. They sat close to the stage.
Bono set it up by saying: “A lovely girl made a phone call to 911”. She’s from Denver, but she’s here tonight. “And so is Engine 44 – the fighting Irish – that picked me up off the ground”, the U2 front man said before accepting a shot of Jameson from the firefighters and handing over the microphone for brief remarks.
“So I have to clarify, it’s Alyssa and I’m from D.C., not Denver”, she began. But her shine ended shortly after.
But he was energetic and excited Thursday, working all the stage at the loud area alongside guitarists the Edge and Adam Clayton and drummer Larry Mullen, Jr.
The band has been playing a residency at fabled Manhattan venue Madison Square Garden as part of their latest world tour, which was thrown into jeopardy in November (14) when the frontman was involved in a horrific accident in Central Park which left him with multiple fractures and breaks to his left arm. The band will play in Europe this fall, starting with two shows in Turin, Italy, in September.
