UA College Democrats to host Democratic presidential debate watch party
CNN won’t have Donald Trump on stage for Tuesday’s first Democratic presidential debate, and the network knows the audience likely won’t come near the record viewership for the GOP debates on Fox News and CNN.
And while the network may deny it, critics will suggest that Hewitt’s presence was meant to pull the GOP candidates further right before a national TV audience, while the absence of a left-wing counterpart Tuesday allows the Democratic candidates to appear more mainstream – if national socialist Bernie Sanders can pull that feat off. James Webb and former Rhode Island Sen. CNN invited the vice president to participate but indicated Monday that he wasn’t expected to join in.
For good or bad, Republicans have engaged a massive swath of the country with their first two debates, which were watched by 25 million and 23 million people, respectively. No big surprise there, as the Trump factor really is that huuuggge when it comes to bringing in casual political viewers and those normally not remotely involved in the process to the table. On the campaign trail, he has fired shots at Clinton, and he could do so on the debate stage.
Similar to broadcast rules, upon conclusion of the debate news organizations may use digital video clips (up to 3:00 minutes at a time) and must credit CNN. To make the argument, let’s introduce another number into the equation: Investment…as in, are Americans much more invested in this election cycle than any other in years’ past? Last month, that number was at 36%. The CBS poll also finds that 70% of voters say this presidential race was “interesting”, compared to just 40% who felt the same way in October 2011.
“I thought he threw away the plans, at least that’s what he told me when he programmed me – that there would be no more”, Clinton said. And unlike numerous other Republican candidates, the Democrats are downright predictable.
They’ll watch closely as former U.S Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Vermont Sen.
When the dust settles and numbers tallied, the Nielsen result will land slightly higher than 10 million.
