Uber customer service hub to create hundreds of jobs in Limerick
Uber said the Limerick centre will become a major hub of its support organisation within EMEA “driving innovation and service excellence for the community of riders and partner drivers in the region”.
It is the the first such hub outside the US, which will cater for customers in Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
The centre will create 150 jobs by the end of 2015 and around 300 when it’s fully up and running.
Jobs Minister Richard Bruton said the company’s investment “highlights the talent of the Irish workforce”. “I very much welcome this decision which demonstrates once again Ireland’s attractiveness for foreign direct investment”, Taoiseach Enda Kenny TD said.
The US-based company is opening a new customer service operation in the city, where it plans to employ up to 300 people by the end of 2016. The city is already home to an array of overseas companies, many in the technology space.
“We look forward to seeing Uber grow and thrive in the years ahead”.
Car-sharing app Uber will open its first major customer services hub outside the US as part of a multi-million euro expansion into Ireland.
“Not only are we investing in the city, we’re also proud to be bringing employment at all levels to the region”, he said.
Cllr Jerry O’Dea, Mayor of Limerick Metropolitan District, said the “positive, collaborative working relationship” that has been established between Limerick City and County Council and regional development agencies such as Enterprise Ireland and the IDA to promote Limerick and the wider region as a location for investment is delivering “real and tangible results”.

Under the Taxi Regulation Act 2013, drivers who use apps such as Uber in Ireland must be licenced in the same way all taxi drivers are.
