Uber to Drivers: Pick Up Cheaper Fares or Else

Drivers can accept it or turn it down, but multiple drivers I’ve talked to have said that they risk reprimand, suspension or termination by Uber if their acceptance rate dips below Uber’s preferred threshold.

On Uber, it’s not just the passengers giving out ratings.

So it looks like Uber is one way of those with devious minds to prey on women looking for a ride. But when a passenger orders an Uber X, they mistakenly think a tip is also included with that fare, as you haven’t exactly gone out of your way to differentiate between the two when it comes to gratuity.

Uber spokesperson Taylor Bennett says that with some 12,000 Uber drivers in the region, the sample of Uber drivers we spoke with is not representative of the overall group. It is to make sure that respectful riders and drivers use Uber.

We’ve all experienced it, but since it doesn’t consistently happen, and not every driver will experience one of these fares during their shift, you can’t factor that into the median hourly wages, because what you’ve done for one driver you must invariably do for all. For a year Uber has claimed that because the driver’s photo and first name (not last name) is displayed on its smartphone app, this somehow ensures passenger safety.

Toronto drivers must carry $2M worth of commercial insurance. Rather than follow government rules, like any other utility, Uber wants a visible hand in creating urban policy, determining how cities develop and grow, eventually making the city itself a platform for the proliferation of ‘smart, ‘ data-based systems. Protesting drivers threw Uber’s assertion that they were partners rather than employees back at the company. Try not to stress too much (although, again, how could you not?). You’ll see an option called “I’d like to know my rating.”

When an Uber user request a ride through the company’s app, drivers in the area are pinged with the ride request. “To have a little money in your pocket, you have to work 17, 18 hours before you can go home”. Of course, if you were super obnoxious and got into a screaming match with your boyfriend while you were stuck in bumper to bumper traffic, well, maybe expect a lower score.
