Uber to Launch UberEATS Food Delivery Service in the United States
Now that it has been able to tap into different markets, the company is deciding to step into another market which is somewhat related to the service they provide: UberEats.
The introduction of a standalone UberEats app also paves the way for Uber to expand its services further into new industries in the future, with its courier service UberRush the obvious next choice as an option that is now siloed within its primary app. Spinning UberRush out into a separate app would enable it to strengthen its position as a logistics firm, and possibly even challenge large players like FedEx and UPS. The other launch cities for UberEats include Washington, DC, Seattle, Atlanta, Houston, Dallas, and Austin. The app is expected to be available for both iOS and Android by the end of March. The food will be picked up and delivered by an Uber driver.
Last month, Toronto became the first city to test the standalone app of UberEATS.
The previous UberEats lunch-time service will be re-branded as Instant Delivery and still exist. After an order is placed, the company delivers the ordered food via a courier in just a few minutes. The lunch-only service right now pays some drivers an hourly rate and others per meal delivery. And similar to Uber, UberEats lets you track your orders’ whereabouts on your smartphone as it makes its way to you.
We are all familiar with Uber and the ride sharing service that the company offers.
Subsequently, as the order is ready, an Uber driver can select if he/she wishes to deliver that food order. Some of these companies have struggled to demonstrate they can operate profitably, leading to difficulty raising new funding at high valuations and a slowdown in hiring.
