Uber tries to make it easier to find your driver
If you fancy becoming an Uber driver but can’t afford a suitable vehicle, consider moving to Denver, Colorado. Well, these people have.
Often, after events with large crowds for example, users can find it hard to locate their Uber driver.
Uber first talked about the new idea in their online newsroom, and the company stated that it had provided some of the drivers in Seattle, a popular Uber city, with the SPOT technology that they can attach to their windshields. Tapping a colored button (green, yellow, purple, orange, pink or blue) could direct you to your respective Uber.
When the driver arrives, the SPOT device will glow in that color. Spot bars were provided to all the Uber drivers during the test, but they are designed in a way that they do not light-up until a driver is not nearby. No more awkward moments, like this woman experienced.
“SPOT is the latest experiment in our ongoing effort to make Uber pickups as seamless as possible”, the company writes in a recent blogpost.
Uber has come out with a new solution to make it easy for riders to find the right vehicle. Drivers are encouraged, but aren’t required, to affix an Uber placard inside their windshield. Uber adds that riders while waiting for the cars can also light up their phone display by pressing and holding the colour they chose in the app for Spot device, making it easy for the driver to identify the rider. And when alcohol is involved, that confusion can get magnified – and hilarious.
