Uber updates app so that customers can set destination to a person
Uber says that the new app learns from riders’ routines and if you are a frequent Uber user, then you will see “shortcuts” on your app’s navigation menu.
The new app will be immediately available to 1% of the Android and iOS users. Along with the major redesign, the application has been improved with additional features.
Kalanick brushed off a suggestion that, much like General Motors’ new partnership with IBM Watson to turn the vehicle via OnStar into a rolling marketplace, Uber could eventually sell to its users via the app. These shortcuts predict where one could be headed and can save time on your journey.
Uber said the new app also would speed drop-off and pickup times by remembering customers’ most-visited places and, if they agree, by accessing their digital calendars to mark meeting times and locations.
This is the biggest difference between the old and new Uber app, with the company saying its new offering sets its focus on the most important question: where are you going?
Once the user hops in to the Uber cab and is heading towards bus/train terminal, he/she can avail transit information right on the Uber app.
The Uber app for hailing a ride using your mobile device has become (somewhat) complicated over time. Uber has now gone back to using an icon with black background and white logo.
“Because we have your destination, we can calculate exactly how much you’re paying”, Yamashita said. As Uber says, “people are the new places”. Not only that, but better estimates for when Uber expects you to arrive are also included.
But what it will have at launch is a new section that Uber hopes will keep your attention in the app after you get in a auto instead of opening Facebook and and Twitter. There are simpler features as well, like the removal of the slider control, which let you switch between different services like carpooling or Uber XL.
The Australian branch of the rideshare service added the extra features in their app in the latest upgrade. As well, Uber plans to enable trips directly to another person, assuming they send you a message with their location details.
Once you have added your destination, you can select which ride you want to take. Once they do so, the user will be able to catch a ride in their direction. Those going to a restaurant can browse its Yelp reviews.
Uber may be the most valuable privately held company in the world, but that doesn’t mean it’s making money.
Uber will be pursuing more partnerships for its in-car entertainment in the future.
