Ubisoft earnings suggest Xbox One players spend more than those on PS4

January is even worse for Microsoft, as the PS4 beat the sales of Xbox One by 3-to-1. For example, if company A had twice as many players as company B, but spends only 30% of the money, then company B is still the better targeting option.

Now though, 4J Studios has just said on Twitter that they hope to have both updates out before the end of the week – basically giving users a 48 hour window on when to expect the download to go live. If Sony manages to keep the price of the PS VR at $299 once it comes out, it will be a great news to PS4 owners considering on how much Oculus is charging for their Rift headset.

In any case, the VR arms race is shaping up to be one of the most interesting market cases in the gaming industry since the console wars of the 90’s.

VentureBeat reports that PS4 enjoyed another sales win over Xbox One.

This makes sense from the standpoint that the PS4 is more popular overall, which means more frugal gamers have picked up the Sony system since that’s the one most people are going with when they can only afford a single system.

But this is still something positive for Xbox One and Microsoft because it is growing its ARPU lead over Sony.

NPD added that current gen consoles – PS4, Xbox One and Wii U – accounted for 96 per cent of hardware sales in the period, up from 84 per cent the January before. “In January 2016, however, the sales of eighth generation consoles declined by 8 percent, despite relatively flat unit sales, as average prices dipped by 6 percent as a result of price cuts that took place between January 2015 and January 2016”.

The company revealed that the numbers were from an NPD Group report.
