UC Merced Assailant Planned To Steal Police Guns
Mohammad had written a two-page manifesto found on his body that detailed his plan to bind students to their desks with zip-tie handcuffs.
He meant to squirt the petroleum jelly on the floor to create a slippery surface for anyone entering the classroom. Four were attacked before a construction worker happened across the incident and stopped the attack.
Merced Couty Sheriff Vern Warnke confirmed the identity of the 18-year-old student to the Sun-Star early Thursday.
Price described Mohammad as skinny, about 5-foot-11 and wearing baggy clothes. The officer kept saying, ‘Do you want to get shot?
Two campus police officers chased him, and about 15 minutes after the attacks began, Mohammad was shot.
All of the victims were expected to survive, officials said.
“He also looked like he was having fun”, Price, who was stabbed in the side, told the Merced Sun Star. Warnke said the worker’s actions probably saved the life of the first victim.
“I was listening to a podcast, and there was a break in talking, and I just hear a gunshot”, he said.
Amazingly, within a couple of hours, he was able to drive himself home. The other was treated and released.
The suspect was then shot and killed by police about 35 or 40 yards away from the classroom.
Classes at UC Merced, the newest addition to the 10-campus University of California system and located 135 miles (220 km) southeast of San Francisco, were canceled through Thursday.
“There was absolutely nothing they could find to indicate anything other than his being a college student at UC Merced”, Warnke said, adding the attack was the result of “personal animosities”. Warnke, however, stressed that there was “still nothing to indicate” Mohammad’s Muslim religion had anything to do with his motive.
“I’ll never forget the look on her face”, he said.
This story will be updated as soon as more information becomes available. He lost contact with Mohammad after they graduated from high school in Santa Clara, California, in June.
“He just didn’t really talk much”.
“I never saw him walk with anybody” to class, he said.
One student told the student newspaper The Prodigy, that he was rarely ever in his room.
He says there was a handwritten list of items to put in the backpack, and officials recovered them all except for scissors.
‘They did detonate something. On his way, he ran into another male student who had been stabbed. After speaking with one of his former classmates a student from the school spoke of Mohammad to NBC news as being “quiet, smart and did not bother anyone”.
Faisal allegedly stabbed two students, a staffer and a construction worker who rushed to help on Wednesday morning.
“The threat of a mass shooter on campus on Monday [at Fresno State] and then a knifing on Wednesday at Merced, it’s kind of disheartening more than anything else, that these places can’t be safer than that”, Eissinger said.
The sheriff made it clear that while the plan mentioned Allah, there is no reason to believe the attack was an act of religious extremism. All the victims are recovering. I was definitely surprised hearing that. “He even writes his own script about how he wanted to do it, and what he’ll say when he calls the police department”.
Classes for the university’s 6,700 students resumed Friday.
