UCF dismisses all-conference running back William Stanback
UCF is off to a dismal 0-3 start to the season with an offense that has produced just 12 points per game.
William Stanback is no longer a part of the UCF program after leading the team in rushing last season.
O’Leary let the media know there was an impending statement to be made in his weekly Monday press conference when asked if Stanback would be in the team’s plans more following the Knights’ rash of injuries, losses and lack of offensive production. “It broke down my confidence”, Stanback said back in August.
Update: According to ESPN’s Joe Schad, Stanback failed multiple drug tests for marijuana.
Stanback rushed for 697 yards on 189 carries and had 10 touchdowns last season.
The circumstances surrounding his dismissal were not specified.
Furman’s Reese Hannon completed 15 of 29 passes for 188 yards and one touchdown, a 61-yard bomb to Andrej Suttles that gave Furman its first lead of the game early in the third quarter. The Knights will move forward with McGowan, junior Nick Patti and others in the backfield as they look to salvage their season.
UCF dismissed Stanback on Tuesday, Orlando Sentinel writer Matt Murschel reports.
