UCF to name Oregon OC Scott Frost as new head coach
According to Brandon Helwig of UCFSports.com, the Knights are prepared to name current Oregon Ducks offensive coordinator Scott Frost as their next head coach.
Frost has served as the Ducks’ offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach since 2013, a stretch that includes Mariota’s Heisman-winning 2014 season.
“Scott was highly sought after and we are excited that he will bring his innovative offense to UCF”.
However, just two years ago the Knights beat Baylor in the Fiesta Bowl to finish 12-1.
Frost’s hiring leaves 13 FBS football openings for head coaches: Georgia, South Carolina, Missouri, Virginia, Miami, Syracuse, Maryland, Rutgers, Memphis, Tulane, North Texas, Toledo and Louisiana-Monroe.
A second-team CoSIDA Academic All-America selection who twice earned first-team academic all-conference honors, Frost graduated with his B.A.in finance from Nebraska in 1997. Over the years, he played or coached under Bill Walsh at Stanford, Tom Osborne at Nebraska, Bill Parcels and Bill Belichik with the Jets, Jon Gruden with the Bucs, and Chip Kelly at Oregon. He played defensive back and special teams in the National Football League for several teams before beginning his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Nebraska and Kansas State.
Frost was new athletic director Danny White’s first hire at UCF and early reactions were uniformly positive.
