UCLA’s Ishmael Adams faces misdemeanor for August incident
UCLA junior CB Ishmael Adams will face a misdemeanor battery charge stemming from his attempt to rob an Uber driver of his cell phone over the summer.
A UCLA spokesperson declined to comment on the development. Adams is scheduled to be arraigned in November.
UCLA initially suspended Adams from the football team but allowed him to rejoin after it was announced that Adams would not face felony charges.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office decided against filing felony charges and referred the case to the city attorney’s office.
“We feel as a program he’s missed a quarter of his season and shown remorse for the actions that he’s taken”, UCLA coach Jim Mora said on September 22. Authorities had alleged that Adams stole a cellphone during an August 30 fight with the driver.
Adams, who starred at Oaks Christian High, had started 26 consecutive games for the Bruins until his suspension. He also scored a touchdown on a 100-yard kickoff return against Arizona State. Adams’ father, Stefon, played defensive back for the Los Angeles Raiders, Cleveland Browns and Miami Dolphins from 1986-90.
