UF grad Marco Rubio takes dig at FSU nation, Thrasher responds
Republican Presidential Candidate Marco Rubio told an Iowa sports radio station that Florida State University is for people who do not get accepted to the University of Florida.
Rubio was a star football player at South Miami High School, and after his graduation in 1989 went to Tarkio College in Missouri under a football scholarship.
He took a dig at Rubio’s poll numbers in an interview with the Tallahassee Democrat.
He said Ben Hill Griffin Stadium at Florida Field, affectionately known as “The Swamp”, is the toughest place to play in Florida and the Southeastern Conference. “I grew up in Miami”.
On the campaign trail, Rubio continues to joke about his thirst, or his need for more H-2-0 – even if members in the audience already think that the moment has passed.
“But these things ebb and flow”, he said.
When the question was reversed, Rubio said Peyton Manning would be the best player who could also be a senator because he is a good communicator. “And that’s why we have Florida State”.
The Gators and Hurricanes discontinued their annual rivalry game following the 1987 season, which only intensified each fan base’s distaste for the other “Big 3” rival.
Thrasher, who served with Rubio in the legislature, apparently did not take kindly to the smack talk, following in the footsteps of a number of Seminoles fans. But only over the last 24 hours did Rubio’s interview and his comments about FSU draw attention. “But we are still going to #BeatFSU”.
