UFC 192: Joseph Benavidez Has His Next Fight Booked
A pair of bouts have been added to October’s UFC 192 card in Houston.
UFC 192 grew by two on Monday, as the event received a pivotal flyweight clash between Joseph Benavidez and Ali Bagautinov, plus a women’s strawweight tilt pitting Rose Namajunas against Angela Hill. The Houston Chronicle was the primary to report the information. The pay-per-view event is scheduled to take place at Toyota Center.
Namajunas (2-2) and Hill (2-1) are two strawweights with star potential that are still trying to gain a significant foothold in the Octagon. The 31-year-old flyweight is 9-2 in the UFC. The Team Alpha Male fighter is on a 3-fight winning streak since losing his rematch to Demetrious Johnson for the UFC Flyweight Championship and has won six of his last seven. This marked his second straight decision win after coming out on top over Roufusport product Dustin Ortiz at UFC Fight Night 57 in November.
He now meets No. 5-ranked Bagautinov, who fights for the first time his own defeat to Johnson. The victor of their bout should rightfully be in title contention, but if Johnson successfully defends his belt against John Dodson at UFC 191 on September 5, it could be hard for either Benavidez or Bagautinov to get the next shot at the belt. Following this loss, it was revealed “The Puncher King” had tested postive for erythropoietin (EPO), result in a one year suspension. Benavidez is now ranked #2.
Hill suffered her first loss of her professional mixed martial arts career, losing a Unanimous Decision to Tecia Torres in June att UFC 188 in Mexico City.
