UFC 194: After Aldo, McGregor to Fight Edgar Next?
Former UFC featherweight champion and pound-for-pound king Jose Aldo is still feeling heartbroken after his 13-second loss to Conor McGregor at UFC 194 last Saturday.
“I do enjoy the numbers”, he said.
Sunday morning, after allowing the dust to settle for the time being, “Notorious” penned a heartfelt message on social media, thanking his family, friends and the UFC. He recently said that one of his fights will eventually rival the revenues made from the “Fight of the Century” in boxing between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao.
If McGregor has broken his left wrist, he will not be allowed fight until June 12th next year, which is six months to the day after the Aldo win.
Aldo had his 18-fight winning streak and six-year reign as featherweight champion end in devastating fashion in a result no one saw coming.
“It still is too hard to digest”, shared Aldo via Combate, according to MMA Fighting.
The moments leading up to the fight were tense as both fighters came into the ring ready for an epic battle.
Velasquez isn’t a huge PPV draw either and hasn’t accomplished near as much as Jose Aldo, whereas Rousey’s return against Holm could set the UFC all-time PPV record.
We don’t know what exactly McGregor will do next, but we know he won’t be defending his title against Aldo.
McGregor will move next to either a featherweight title defense against Frankie Edgar, or a move up in weight for the lightweight belt.
“I said to [UFC co-owner] Lorenzo [Fertitta], and I said to [UFC president] Dana [White], I’m bringing in these big numbers”, McGregor continued. He also said that he thought a rematch was in order because “it was really not a fight so we need to get back in here”. “I don’t care what he says”. This match was so fast that it even broke Ronda Rousey’s record for a title fight finish.
“It wasn’t this time, but we will come out victorious, for sure”, he added.
On Saturday he said: ‘I’ll tell you one thing that won’t be happening. That makes us stronger.
