UFC 195 Results: Robbie Lawler Won The Title; Carlos Condit Got Defeated
UFC 195, which took place on Saturday night in Las Vegas, featured a number of controversial decisions.
It is the fourth consecutive fight that has seen Ruthless Robbie go to the fifth round following wins over Matt Brown, Johny Hendricks and his brutal clash last July with with Rory MacDonald.
Lawler (27-10, 1 NC) was magnanimous in victory. Despite landing more strikes on Robbie Lawler than his opponent even attempted, two of the three judges scored the epic welterweight title battle against Carlos Condit.
When the final horn sounded, the fighters stopped winging wild punches at one another and together sagged against the cage, the arms of both men hanging over the top to keep them standing.
“Every time I see him fight he proves everyone wrong”.
“I felt I had three rounds in the bag”, Condit said of his thoughts as he headed to the fifth. He’s in shape and he comes to fight. I wasn’t hurt neurologically, but I was roughed up a little bit.
Condit loss to Lawler via split decision with two judges awarding the latter a 48-47 score. Condit, 31, fell to 30-9.
At the weigh in, Lawler and Condit exchanged a statedown and neither of them seemed to back down. This MMA main event fight is joined by several other fights on Saturday’s card so prepare yourself for a heavy does of MMA action this evening. While Condit said he would consider retirement, Lawler had a better idea. Although neither fighter knew it at the time, because no one in this sport has any confidence in predicting how cageside judges are scoring a fight, the bout was there for the taking. Hat’s off to him. You can’t make these kinds of (decisions) right after the fight, you know?
White also spoke after Saturday’s co-main event, in which Miocic took just 54 seconds to dispatch Arlovski and vocally called for a chance to fight for the heavyweight title.
Condit had done just about everything in MMA aside from winning an undisputed UFC belt.
The UFC’s next show is scheduled for January 17, as bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw puts his belt on the line against Dominick Cruz.
Miocic himself believes he’s earned his shot. The 6-foot-4 firefighter from the Cleveland suburbs has won five of six fights despite enduring winter travel delays on his way to Vegas this week. “I think there’s enough competitors”.
Miocic will now face whoever emerges triumphant from UFC 196 in February when current champion Fabricio Werdum has his rematch with Cain Velasquez.
Brian Ortega notched up a attractive submission victory over Diego Brandao after trapping the Brazilian in a Triangle choke in the third round.
