UFC 210: An Event 2 Decades in the Making
UFC light heavyweight champion Cormier is set to fight Johnson in the main event of UFC 210.
“This is where he’s from, I get it”, Cormier said.
“He was holding the towel the second time?” he said. Fighters dehydrate themselves attempting to make the weight, and when it gets to be too much, they are at physical risk and also frequently perform poorly.
“I’m not the same fighter I was back then [against Cormier]”, Johnson said. But Johnson is more than ready, and leaves the talking to his opponent and the media. It would be an honour to share the Octagon with a legend like him.
“We will see how different he is on Saturday”, Cormier continued.
Johnson has fought three times during that same stretch, including twice in 2016, knocking out Glover Teixeira in 13 seconds at UFC 202 and Ryan Bader in 1:26 at UFC on Fox 18. The matchup filled the vacancy left by longtime former champion Jon Jones, who was stripped of the belt due to legal trouble. “A win is a win for me”.
Yeah, so tell me, what’s it like preparing for a rematch?
But despite having taken off all his clothes in an attempt to make the weight first time round, Cormier returned to the scales just moments later and tipped the scales bang on the 205lb-limit.

Perched as a -130 favourite in his rematch with Cormier, “Rumble” Johnson has displayed his fearsome punching power with knockout victories in each of his past three fights. I’m gonna go out there and just do my best. “The last time he fought Ovince Saint Preux, it was just a sh*tty fight, nearly as bad as me and Anderson Silva”. If you’re trying to fight the flawless fight, it’ll be a boring fight, you know what I mean? It’s going to be an interesting evening to say the least. “I think it takes a mentally tough fighter to endure through tough times and come out the other side still confident”. Oh yeah, I know I will.
There was high, hectic drama in Buffalo, earlier today, when UFC light heavyweight champion appeared to be out of UFC 210. Do you pay attention to that kind of stuff or do you focus on the fight? “I just wanted to make sure I didn’t show my junk”.
“I couldn’t let him have that advantage of being there when the winner’s name is announced because straight away that would have made the commentators and everyone put his name at the top of the list”. What’s your reaction to that statement?
“He [Jones] better not come in my cage after I win”, Cormier said, as quoted on MMAFighting.
