UFC Champ Conor McGregor Responds To Joe Rogan’s ‘Illegitimate Made-Up Belt
As usual, Conor McGregor is an expert at talking big game. Imagine a pay-per-view headlined by McGregor versus Rafael dos Anjos or Donald Cerrone-both of whom took shrapnel from McGregor later in the day on UFC Tonight -or Khabib Nurmagomedov, or Anthony Pettis, or the rest of the best at 155 pounds.
He meets featherweight champion Jose Aldo on December 12, after a rib injury ruled out Aldo of the original fight in June. According to UFC.com, they are the top two ranked featherweight fighters and their upcoming bout will be the rare champion vs. champion match.
Is it safe to say at this point Conor McGregor and Jose Aldo aren’t friends?
The Brazilian champion flew from Rio de Janeiro to Las Vegas to talk to the media a week before and visit the set of The Ultimate Fighter, where McGregor was coaching a season opposite Urijah Faber.
McGregor undoubtedly has been a boon for the promotion at featherweight, drawing over 2,000 fans from Ireland to Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena in support of his headliner against short-notice replacement Chad Mendes at July’s UFC 189.
McGregor also mentioned a possibility that would allow for more gourmet meals on the Strip: a future at lightweight. I want to tell him stop being a [expletive], it will be over soon and you’ll be back to your normal life with your wife and your kids.
Until that is cleared, McGregor’s plans are like so many previous conversations around fighters restless at their weight – highly speculative. He was gifted his belt.
“As far as them searching for stars, since Georges and Anderson [left], bring Georges and Anderson back”, McGregor said Wednesday.
