UFC champion Holly Holm’s next fight won’t be Ronda Rousey rematch
It seemed like a foregone conclusion that Ronda Rousey would get an immediate rematch against Holly Holm after their November 14 fight that saw Holm capture the UFC women’s bantamweight title with a vicious knockout of Rousey. “We understand there are risks, but Holly’s a dominant champion, and she wants to fight the best”.
UFC President Dana White announced the plan Wednesday night on Fox Sports 1, the UFC’s corporate broadcast partner.
While the attention here mostly lies in the fact that Holm will defend her title for the first time against someone other than Rousey, it’s important to take note of White’s full statement.
Meanwhile, White confirmed that Rousey will be back in action this year, but stopped short of narrowing down when the 28-year-old could possibly make her comeback, despite reports of a comeback in July.
It’ll be interesting to see exactly when the fight materializes, with a March or April date likely to indicate that the promotion are still holding out hope that Holm Vs Rousey II could happen in July.
Holm and Rousey are expected to fight at UFC 200.
However, Internet sleuths quickly pointed out the unknown model has a tattoo on her right wrist that is strikingly similar to the one Rousey sports on her right wrist.
Another question that comes up is who would Rousey face if Holm wasn’t available to fight?
According to Dana White, however, they have yet to determine who Holm will go up against next.
“We have nothing done yet”, for either fighters’ next bout, White said.
An obvious opponent for Holm would be Miesha Tate (17-5). “She’s dedicated the last 3+ years to working hard fighting + promoting…she will fight this year”.
Saturday Night Live (SNL) announced that Ronda Rousey will be hosting “Saturday Night Live” on January 23 while Selena Gomez will perform as a musical guest of the show.
