UFC Middleweight Champ Says ‘I’m Not Leaving the Sport
With their actual fight still four months away, UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman and Luke Rockhold have been duking it out on social media.
“I know for a fact, I’m not leaving this sport without fighting Jon”, Weidman said Monday.
Weidman seems bent on moving up to the UFC light heavyweight division to face off against “Bone” Jones, although all that may have to wait. The idea has always seemed to hang around the sport of MMA, creating regular – and often meaningless – back-and-forth hypotheticals.
However, outside of perhaps Chuck Liddell vs. Wanderlei Silva (2007’s Fight of the Year), there really haven’t been any in-ring collaborations that have warranted the title.
That’s something that will undoubtedly be on Rockhold’s mind come fight night, as he’ll have to worry about “All American’s” all-around game. You can see when he comes in; he comes in kind of carelessly, kind of going through the motions. “And I want to see it happen”.
Jon Jones is now suspended indefinitely from the UFC.
Jon Jones is now serving an indefinite suspension, which was given to him by the UFC after Jones’ alleged involvement in a hit-and-run back in April.
Jones returned to the crash site to retrieve money stashed in his vehicle before fleeing again.
At the time of his arrest, Jones was already considered arguably the greatest fighter to ever live.
Except for a technicality DQ against Matt Hamill, Jones’ record is essentially untainted in 22 fights. Sports, Weidman and Rockhold’s bout will be the co-main event for Jose Aldo and Conor McGregor’s fight this coming December, also one of the much anticipated match-ups in UFC history to date. I just don’t know what the hell’s going on in his head.
“I understand that Chris is a good offensive wrestler, but this is not wrestling”, said Rockhold.
He sees Jones as among the biggest challenges and that he wanted to conquer him. He’s been in there and he’s fought some tough guys, I’ll give him that. I want the biggest challenges. I think he’s a little insecure about himself, and I feel like that’s why he has to pump his chest up all the time and go a little overboard.
