UFC’s White: Holm to fight before Rousey rematch
For another thing, if Tate were to win, she would be the next legitimate contender for a fight against Rousey, not Holm.
As reported by the Los Angeles Times, speaking about Holm’s next match, White said, “I honestly don’t know what we’re going to do”.
Though nothing has been confirmed yet who she will fight next, the most likely opponent for her first title defense is former Strikeforce champion Miesha Tate. During an appearance on ESPN Radio’s Mike and Mike on December 3, UFC president Dana White said Rousey (12-1) would get a rematch, adding he and UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta should “probably lose our promoter’s license if didn’t make that rematch”.
In another report in Bleacher Report, Holm said during an interview with MMA Hour that she thinks that her next fight, if it is going to be done sooner rather later may not be a rematch. White offered no details about Holm’s next fight on the broadcast and offered no information afterward when questioned by Yahoo Sports. She is still recovering from her injuries sustained against the fight with Holm, but she has a very busy schedule. She was kind of the one that was in line for the title before they gave the fight to me. She appeared on late-night talk shows, numerous magazine covers and is one of two cover athletes on the UFC’s upcoming video game.
Holm, of course, shocked the world by knocking out Rousey to claim the belt last November.
Another question that comes up is who would Rousey face if Holm wasn’t available to fight?
In the meantime, Holm and her manager, Lenny Fresquez, are anxious to keep the new UFC champion from getting rusty. Saturday Night Live announced Rousey will host the January 23 show with musical guest Selena Gomez.
