UFOs clouds invade Cape Town
Residents in Cape Town feared they were being invaded by little green martians after a swarm of UFO-like clouds filled the skies.
Given that the clouds pictured in South Africa are appearing over mountains, we can safely assume they are actually lenticular clouds and not UFOs. Then, if a strong wind blows in from the side it can give the cloud a layered, stack-of-pancakes-looking shape, creating a lenticular cloud formation.
‘Right now above my head!
Lenticular clouds, which come from a Latin word meaning “lens-like”, can form in many places around the world and have been blamed for a number of previous “UFO sightings”.
“There were just these massive UFO type clouds and they became more defined as time passed”, said Monique Jackson. You learn something every day’. “Air flows along the surface of the earth and reaches a few sort of obstruction like a mountain or valley”. Mr Mijlof told Sky News the clouds started forming over Table Mountain – about five miles from the city – at around 3pm and his picture was taken three hours later as the formation peaked.
While Di Brown described the formation as “spectacular” and posted on Instagram: “The cloud looks like a tornado in pause mode”.
