Uggie, canine star of Oscar-winning The Artist, has died
According to TMZ, Uggie’s owner, Omar Von Mueller, had to make the hard decision to put his dog down.
The Jack Russell terrier was owned by Omar Von Muller who rescued Uggie from being sent to the dog pound.
Uggie, the dog from “The Artist” which won an Academy Award for Best Picture, is immortalized with a hand and paw print ceremony at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre on June 25, 2012 in Hollywood, California.
The move paid off as Los Angeles-based Uggie went on to earn a Golden Collar Award and the Palm Dog Award at Cannes in 2011 for his role in the 1930s film The Artist, for which he was paid £23,000.
UGGIE, the dog who shot to fame in 2011 Oscar-winning film The Artist, has been put to sleep at the age of 13. The poor canine had been suffering after being diagnosed with prostate cancer, and his pain became stronger in the past couple of weeks.
“Thank you for your support, I will not be reading any comments for a while as it is too painful at the moment”. In one scene, Uggie saved Dujardin’s character from a blazing fire by attracting the help of a police officer. Sarah Clifford trained Uggie for his big star turn, and tells us he was “a ideal little terrier” with boundless energy.
TMZ first reported the news, revealing that Uggie had suffered from a prostate illness and a cancerous tumor. Shortly before the 2012 Oscars, Movieline launched an only partly tongue-in-cheek Facebook campaign called “Consider Uggie”, aimed at securing him an Oscar nomination. Uggie the dog will be missed in Hollywood.
