UK to get 2nd female PM: May, Leadsom in Conservative runoff
May, 59, is the current frontrunner in the race to become the next British prime minister in September after David Cameron resigned following the European Union referendum.
The next United Kingdom prime minister will be a woman, results from the Members of Parliament ballot confirmed on Thursday, with the battle for the Conservative Party leadership set to be between Home Secretary Theresa May and Energy Minister Andrea Leadsom.
Her campaign chief, Tim Loughton MP, made note of the fact that the next prime minister will be the country’s first female leader since Margaret Thatcher, who led the United Kingdom from 1979 to 1990. The victor will replace Prime Minister David Cameron who announced his resignation after Britons voted on June 23 to leave the European Union. The comments sparked a row among politicians and Twitter users, with Lawmaker Alan Duncan calling Leadsom’s comments “vile”, while leader of the Green party Natalie Bennett linked her comments to 1950s politics.
Controlling the number of new arrivals to Britain was a major driver for numerous 52 percent of Britons who backed leaving the European Union but Britain may have to accept EU citizens in return for access to the single market. However, the House of Commons Library stated that the latest figure of registered voters is around 149,800.
Not exactly representative of Britain, but nevertheless, they’ll pick a new party leader – and Prime Minister – on September 9.
The 53-year-old said she was sure that Mrs May’s lack of children was hard for her.
The results eliminated from the race Justice Secretary Michael Gove, who received 46 votes. He campaigned for an European Union exit alongside popular former London Mayor Boris Johnson, who had been expected to seek the party leadership, with Gove as his campaign manager.
May holds one of the highest-profile posts in the British government and is considered the more experienced candidate – serious and competent but lacking charisma. Leadsom has been criticized for her lack of experience, since she’s never been a member of the cabinet which is normally a prerequisite for a PM.
“Andrea Leadsom will be looking to build her profile among Conservative Party members and the wider public over the coming months”.
But for all the headlines about “Maymentum”, the leadership campaign is far from over.

Leadsome has been supporting to “leave” from EU. “She said her kids were a huge part of her life, she also had brothers and sisters”. “She has said she will deliver the democratic decision of the country”.
“She says that she wants to be able to guarantee them and see guarantees for Brits living overseas in the EU”.
May said Britain needed “strong, proven” leadership to handle Brexit negotiations and unite the country.
