Underfire Trump admits Obama is American
After Trump finally made his brief statement – in which he also blamed the birther movement on Hillary Clinton, a narrative that has been debunked – Bolduan again noted how frustrating the event was to cover.
Trump was responding to a question about whether Kellyanne Conway, his campaign manager, was being accurate when she said last week that Trump now believes Obama was born in the United States. “She was not allowed to travel by plane then, so Barack Obama was born there and his mother then took him to Hawaii to register his birth”, asserted one chain email that surfaced on the urban legend site Snopes.com in April 2008. (Trump pulled the same trick when he skipped the Republican debate in Iowa, holding a veterans’ event so that the theme of bravery would mask the cowardly act of backing out of a public contest with his rivals.) He told brazen lies.
“.I’m shocked that a question like that has come up at a time when we have so many other things to do”, Obama said. “I finished it”, he said. “Well, I’m not that shocked actually”.
Despite the fact that Obama himself said he viewed this renewed burst of commentary about his birth as “fairly typical” and not surprising, members of the Congressional Black Caucus were clearly angry.
The President dismissed Trump’s criticism Friday, joking with reporters at the White House and saying, “I was pretty confident about where I was born”. My hope would be the presidential election reflects more serious issues than that.
Clinton, speaking just before Trump to an African American women’s group in Washington, accused Trump of “feeding the worst impulses” of bigotry with his campaign.
Refusing to concede error is a core element of Donald Trump’s primordial appeal.
Clinton has labeled people who raise the eligibility issue as racists, accusing them of trying to “delegitimize” the nation’s first black president. “There is no erasing it in history”, said Clinton at the symposium.
Trump’s extraordinary attempt to prove Obama was not a natural born U.S. citizen and was therefore not qualified to be President started on the conservative fringe but incredibly gathered pace and became a major issue.
“Barack Obama was born in America, plain and simple, and Donald Trump owes him and the American people an apology”.
Asked in the Oval Office about the renewed controversy Friday, Obama gave the question short shrift and made a veiled dig at the U.S. media and its obsessive coverage of Trump. There never will be. Trump, in contrast, spent years loudly questioning Obama’s origins and eligibility for the presidency even after the matter was definitively settled.
Trump’s claim that Clinton started birtherism is an easily refutable lie.
Trump’s event will take place at the James L. Knight Center in Miami beginning at 6:00 p.m.
“Having successfully obtained President Obama’s birth certificate when others could not, Mr. Trump believes that President Obama was born in the United States”, Miller added. But Trump continued to raise questions about Obama’s birthplace long after the birth certificate was released.
