Unemployment rates fell in 21 states in June, rose in 12 | Local
Arkansas’ unemployment rate fell one-tenth of a percentage point in June as the state’s civilian labor pool grew by 200 workers, according to USA labor force data released Tuesday by the Arkansas Department of Workforce Services.
Indiana’s unemployment rate in June was lower than the national rate of 5.3 percent and lower than the rates in neighboring states. Resident employment increased 9,000 while unemployment fell 3,000.
More than 64,000 people have found jobs since June 2014, according to state data.
The unemployment rates in the USA and neighboring states are lower. That’s down from 6.3 percent in June of 2014. “Hoosiers know we can do better, and it begins by removing Mike Pence as our governor”.
Pete Gioia, an economist with the Connecticut Business and Industry Association, said in a statement released this week that while Connecticut’s unemployment rate remains higher than other New England states, the private sector appears to be leading the recovery. Progress on employment is among reasons Federal Reserve policy makers are looking at raising interest rates this year.
Nonfarm employment rose more than 6,000 over the year to hit 1,007,608 in June, the state said.
The seasonal fluctuations in the number of employed and unemployed persons reflect hiring and layoff patterns that accompany regular events such as the winter holiday season and the summer vacation season.
The largest gains from May to June were seen in leisure and hospitality, mining and construction and financial activities.
The Grand Island metropolitan statistical area went from a 2.7 percent unemployment rate in May to a preliminary rate of 3.1 percent in June.
The figures point to widespread improvement in the nation’s job market.
The greater Hartford area was the biggest loser, shedding 1,500 positions, while the Norwich-New London-Westerly market dropped 500.
