Unexploded bomb found in Bangkok

A “WIDE” bomb uncovered by Thai police in a Bangkok house has been deactivated, just a week after an explosion killed 20 people in the capital city.
Police have released an artist’s impression of the prime suspect who is seen on security footage leaving a backpack at a bench inside the open-air shrine and walking away. About 18 hours later, at 1 p.m. Tuesday, an explosion took place at the same spot near a busy pier, causing no casualties.
The heart of Bangkok was jolted by a bomb last week that exploded during rush hour at a popular outdoor shrine.
Thailand’s police chief Somyot Poompanmoung said investigators would need some luck to catch those behind the attack.
Other than the previously stated man wearing a yellow T-shirt, two more men in red and white T-shirt separately are suspected to be included in the impact, the police representative said. Ayutthaya is about 80 kilometers north of Bangkok.
Among the 20 people killed, six have been identified as Thai and four as Malaysians, four from mainland Chinese, two from Hong Kong including a British citizen, one Indonesian and one Singaporean.
He said police have not yet ruled out any possible motives, including political conflicts, personal conflicts, business conflicts, ethnic and religious conflicts.
Police spokesman Prawut Thawornsiri said he believes the perpetrator would have timed an escape carefully and “wouldn’t have much time to stay around”.
“I say that I believe he is still in Thailand because I don’t have information to confirm otherwise”, he said.
“We urge the authorities not to press ahead with the criminal case against Mr. Kwan, and to work with the media community in Thailand to decriminalise the legitimate use of body armour and other relevant and purely protective items”.
But within hours of the Erawan Shrine’s reopening to the public last Wednesday, witnesses said that human remains were falling from tree branches overhead.
“The situation seems to be under control now, so we decided not to cancel our holiday”, says Mishti Banerjee, who is travelling this weekend to Bangkok.
Police Lt. Sakon Rungkiatpaisarn said the grenade appeared to have been buried for a while and authorities “do not think it has anything to do with (last Monday’s) bombing”.
