Union Home minister Rajnath Singh arrives in Silchar
The government will initiate strong measures to prevent infiltration from Bangladesh after the feasibility report comes out, the Union Home Minister added.

Singh, on a two-day visit to Assam for inspecting the worldwide border in Karimganj and Dhubri districts, said he is not “happy” with the work going on at present. Singh said, “We are waiting to see the outcome of the pilot project. Both ordinary Bangladeshi people as well as fundamentalists and terrorists are infiltrating through the porous and poorly-guarded border”, AASU president Dipanka Nath said.
The AASU meanwhile has expressed happiness that the union home minister visited the Indo-Bangla border and assured completion of the border fence within 2016.
While he was accompanied by union Sports Minister and state BJP chief Sarbananda Sonowal and a delegation of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), there was no one from the state government. Subsequently, tremors were felt in the north east states and West Bengal and according to the US Geological Survey, the quake was 57 kilometres deep.
“The prime minister has asked me to coordinate with all the chief ministers of the north-eastern states”.
“I am trying to contact people and am monitoring the situation. The Centre will extend all required assistance to the north-eastern states to deal with the crisis”, the minister told the media in Guwahati.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) is coordinating with north-eastern states and others concerned for rescue and relief after an quake early Monday morning in Manipur, a home ministry statement said.
