United Airlines Pilot Flushed Bullets Down Toilet on Germany Flight
Under federal law, pilots are allowed to carry weapons, but only in the United States.
In a rather colorful account of the June incident, the Aviation Herald said that it spent two weeks trying to get someone to confirm that a United Airlines captain flushed 10 bullets down the toilet midflight from Houston to Germany.
It comes after all US United flights were grounded on Wednesday after a glitch in the company’s computer systems.
The Transportation Security Administration and the airline said Thursday that they were investigating the incident.
“He did incorrectly dispose of the ammunition,” May said, according to AP, “but it is likely that the pilot is not going to face any criminal charges.” She added he was still employed by United, but would not say if he had been suspended. Investigators said that the very experienced captain from Texas, realized before landing to Munich from Houston that he had bullets in his bag. He then reported the incident to Germany’s Luftfahrt-Bundesamt, the national civil aviation authority, which allowed the flight to continue to Munich.
This story was first published on CNN.com, “United Airlines: Pilot flushed live ammunition down plane’s toilet”.
“We are investigating”, she said.
A flight attendant looking for a passenger’s missing ring found the bullets in the rubbish bin. “I cannot give any information about his status other than he is nonetheless with us”. A flight attendant thus discovered the bullets, dutifully brought and reported the bullets to the captain, who now decided to ultimately get rid of the bullets and dumped them down the toilet.
Later the captain explained the situation to the flight attendant and informed ground.
After the plane landed in Munich, and when the passengers had disembarked, it taxied to a remote part of the airport, where the waste tanks were emptied to find the bullets.
