United States not at war with any religion: Obama
Last week, US President Barack Obama denounced the “political posturing” that had led to the backlash before mocking Republicans for being afraid of the refugees.
“Number one, we’re looking to degrade and suffocate and destroy them in their core”.
“We will not give in to fear, or start turning on each other, or treating some people differently because of religion or race or background”, Mr. Obama said. All of that makes sense (although we wonder why Hollande didn’t turn to both the European Union and North Atlantic Treaty Organisation given that he declared that his country is “at war.”) But France’s decision to turn exclusively to the European Union places additional pressure on France to show that transatlantic solidarity against Russian aggression in Ukraine will remain firm.
He was speaking at a center in the Malaysian capital that works to provide support for young refugees, including those from the Rohingya ethnic minority who have fled ethnic violence in Myanmar.
The White House is calling on USA allies to do more in the campaign against the Islamic State group.
In one Rasmussen Reports survey released Monday, 49 percent think the nation should formally declare war on the Islamic State, 28 percent disagree, and a significant 23 percent are undecided as yet.
“There will be an intensification of the strategy that we’ve put forward, but the strategy that we’ve put forward is the strategy that ultimately is going to work”, Obama said.
“Recently we’ve seen them start to take some strikes toward ISIL, which we welcome, and they’ve been playing a positive role on the diplomatic front”, said a State Department official, who spoke on condition of anonymity in order to freely discuss sensitive diplomacy. I know all across Iowa and America our hearts and prayers go out to France and her people.
Assad said the Russian airstrikes are more effective than those of the U.S.-led coalition because Moscow is coordinating with his government, saying “you can not fight terrorism with airstrikes alone”.
“Creating a strategy means that we – we create a no-fly zone, create safe havens for the remnants of the Syrian Free Army to – to be built up”.
“This is a time when the French people are grieving”.
In the Republican presidential contest, Donald Trump found himself with a potential new rival, the Constitution, in calling for a registry of Muslim citizens.
Jonathan Ernst/ReutersU.S. President Barack Obama greets students while on a tour of the Dignity for Children Foundation, an education program for refugee and low-income children, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia November 21, 2015. “We need to be aggressive now, because [the] Isil is quasi-state”. It passed a bill that would suspend President Obama’s plan to admit 10,000 Syrian refugees next year, and then tighten the screening process for them in the future.
Islamic State represents all the dynamics previously not seen from a non-state actor, including “tremendous abilities and power”, Hagel said. At the time, the extent to which Russian Federation was willing to be directly involved in the Syrian conflict was unknown and so the revelation raised several questions as to what Moscow’s intentions were. “That’s why I’ve devoted so much of my foreign policy to deepening America’s engagement with this region”, he said.
The war in Syria is ostensibly a civil war, with the added dimension of a conflict with the Islamic State; while the global community as a whole is keen to eradicate ISIS, direct engagement in the internal conflict is an option most modern-day states are not likely to exercise for fear of breaching ideals of sovereignty and democratic peace.
Guterres is correct. If you look at why young people join gangs, which is similar to this case because the Syrian refugees are vulnerable, you’ll notice that one of the factors is family neglect.
“I’ve been waiting for a year and a half, or more, for legislation that would authorize the military activities that we’re carrying out in Syria as we speak, and have not been able to get anything out of Congress”, he said last week.
