United States says would be encouraged with direct Indo-Pak dialogue
Noting that this vision is mentioned in the party’s Agenda of Alliance with BJP, she said her party has been able to inspire confidence among a majority of the people in all the regions of the state about its ability to solve the multiple problems faced by Jammu and Kashmir on political, economic, administrative and financial fronts.
An official government release after the meeting said: “The Prime Minister expressed deep concern and pain at the prevailing situation in the State”.
Stating that a political solution to the problem in Jammu and Kashmir will have to be fond soon within the Constitutional parameters, Jaitley said security forces need not use force if the protests are peaceful.
Contending that the unrest in Kashmir was “pre-planned”, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti yesterday said a “handful of people” were deliberately keeping the Valley on the boil.
In response to the several questions relating to revocation of this draconian law, the Ministry of Home Affairs has stated: “The situation with regard to Jammu and Kashmir is being reviewed in the Ministry from time to time, however, no formal meeting with regard to revocation of AFSPA in Jammu and Kashmir has been held during last two years”.
The Prime Minister’s statement indicates that the government may be considering some political initiative on Kashmir where the over-five weeks long agitation has left almost 70 people dead in clashes between pro-freedom protesters and security forces. Clashes between protesters and security forces for over five weeks have left some 68 people dead. “I think that this is the fall out of the opposition delegation which has recently met the Prime Minister”. “He (Chaudhry) expressed the hope that the worldwide community would play its role in calling on India to put an end to blatant human rights violations in the Valley”, the Foreign Office said.
Talking to KNS the former Minister said India alone can’t resolve the issue within the framework of India constitution as this has been experienced many a time since 1947. All want a solution to this problem.
The delegation said, “continued failure to address the unrest in Kashmir will further deepen the sense of alienation” and hoped that the Prime Minister “will take immediate measures to address this grave situation”.
He said, “We expect the Home Minister to start some conciliatory measures, and also the process of dialogue will start”. According to Union minister of state for PMO Jitendra Singh, the prime minister conveyed to the delegation the need to rise above politics and work towards interests of the J&K people.
