Kovan is one of four 2016 Rhodes Scholars from Big Ten schools. He is the only UI student to have received all three.
Mullin applied for the Rhodes scholarship after deciding to continue research on refugees.
“I spent about six months working on my application for the Rhodes, but the scholarship had been on my radar since freshman year”, said Hebert.
At Duke, Ruckelshaus serves on the Duke University Board of Trustees as a student representative, and as a senator in Duke Student Government. “He loves tennis and plays video games and is pretty obsessive about sports”. He has also cultivated strong relationships with many UI faculty members and takes a genuine interest in their research.
