University of Minnesota Student Union to Remain Closed
The University of Minnesota is keeping its main student union closed for the rest of the day but will reopen it Tuesday morning.
Workers in the building noticed the bag on the first floor of the student center and notified campus officials around 11:30 p.m. Sunday.
The Minneapolis fire chief says the suspicious package, later identified as a tent bag, was X-rayed and showed no safety concerns. “UMPD, along with the assistance of canine units from several local law enforcement agencies searched the building and have determined that the building can open for business as usual tomorrow morning”. Now, officers are searching the building to determine whether it’s safe. However, traffic and the nearby Green Line are operating as normal, the Star Tribune says.
The search hadn’t concluded as of 10 a.m., said University spokesman Joe Koktan.
The university is now holding summer session classes, according to the academic calendar.
