University Rankings: Top 500 varsities revealed – See how Nigeria did

Ranked by the Academic Ranking of World Universities (Arwu), also known as the Shanghai rankings, Wits has taken the top position in Africa, and is also placed in the top 200 in the world in the field of Social Sciences. The Hebrew University came in at number 87 on the list.

The Technion-Israel Institute of Technology is the top-ranking academic institute in Israel, according to the annual Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) released by Shanghai Jiao Tong University on August 15.

According to ShanghaiRanking, Stanford University maintained its standing in the second spot from past year.

“UC San Diego’s culture of innovation, collaboration and risk-taking has once again earned the university global praise as one of the best in the world”, Chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla said.

The list by China’s ShanghaiRanking Consultancy emphasizes the quality of faculty and research.

Its current list confirms the Technion’s place among the world’s 100 leading academic institutions.

UC Berkeley, the University of Cambridge and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology followed. Although AWRU has been criticised for its focus on sciences over humanities, it is still one of the most highly esteemed university rankings across the world.
