One day after the resignations, a veteran associate law school dean, Chuck Henson, who is black, was named to the new position of interim vice chancellor for inclusion, diversity and equity.
He says his wife was troubled by a lengthy discussion she read online Tuesday after his appointment in which people talked about wanting to see him dead.
Hank Foley has begun serving as interim chancellor of the Columbia campus, replacing Loftin. Both Loftin and University of Missouri System President Tim Wolfe resigned Monday after weeks of racial unrest. Many students, faculty and staff accused administrators of failing to adequately address the problems.
“Mike Middleton is the best person to lead the system during this critical period of transition, with 30 years of leadership experience on the MU campus and past service as a civil rights attorney”, Donald Cupps, chair of the University of Missouri Board of Curators, said in a statement.

Students at a few schools, such as the University of MI, said the Missouri case has emboldened them to take a harder stance against administrators if they don’t keep their promises.
Second-year law student Christopher Hamm, president of the school’s Black Law Students Association, applauded the appointment.
“Events like that showcase exactly what’s so great about the university”, Dixon said. Unsurprising, since Middleton, 68, was a founder of Missouri’s Legion of Black Collegians who issued that set of demands 46 years ago.

According to campus police, an unknown suspect spray-painted over part of the sign outside the center at about 12:48 a.m. Authorities are reviewing videotape in the area as part of the effort to determine the identity of the culprit, police said. Deputy Tony Moore, who works the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s electronic communications triage unit, said his group has dealt with Yik Yak on only one occasion but “it was an exigent circumstance and they responded accordingly”.
Reports of racially charged threats have permeated social media.
