Unreal wants you to mod dinosaur world with the ARK Dev Kit
Studio Wildcard has today announced the release of the ARK dev kit to coincide with the ARK: Survival Evolved Modding Contest sponsored by Alienware to celebrate the best in the modding community.
The kit can be downloaded from the Epic Games Launcher.
Survival Evolved were given an interesting gift today which could open the game up in new interesting ways.
ARK Dev Kit, is a streamlined version of Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 4 editor to help simplify the creation and sharing process of mods for ARK: Survival Evolved so anyone can get involved.
New Functionality or Game Mode – Rather than creating a new map, you could create a traditional “mod” that overrides existing game content or adds new mechanics.
Survival Evolved is a recreation by which you’re stranded on an island with little probability of survival. VG 24/7 is reporting that there’s a contest being hosted by Alienware where the grand prize victor will be awarded $15,000 and some top of the line gaming gear from from the high-end computer manufacturer. Prizes and competition rules can be found here.
Second place will win $5,000, a Alienware X51 Desktop, and a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 Graphics Card. Each SotF battle takes place on a modified version of the ARK island, with the objective being to eliminate all other survivors before they eliminate you! Every 30 minutes there are randomized Evolution Events, such as freak weather or dinosaurs dropping from the sky, which will have a major impact on gameplay. The entire mode was made using the ARK Dev Kit, so despite its intrigue and creativity, it is only an example of what the modding tools are capable of.
