Unsportsmanlike, times three, for NY Giants player
The Giants’ receiver, who was held without a catch in the first half, finally beat Norman for a game-tying touchdown in the fourth quarter, before stepping over the defender during his celebration.
From the start, the two athletes were seen pushing and shoving, and both received citations for unnecessary roughness.
But it is interesting how hard the Giants and/or Beckham’s people are working to turn public opinion in his favor.
Beckham finished the game with four penalties, including three personal fouls – two of those on one drive in the third quarter. One of the calls was a blatant head to head hit on Josh Norman after the play which should have led to an ejection on the spot.
“The guy ran 15 yards down the field – a dead on collision”, Norman said.
“When you take that too far, when you go at somebody maliciously like that, go head-hunting…”
“I hope I pulled that mask off. I pulled back the face of what that dude really is”, said Norman. “I mean it’s ridiculous”.
Beckham, who dropped a certain touchdown pass on the opening series, refused to discuss his run-in with Norman, skirting the questions by saying the loss was unfortunate. “Anyone who’s played sports, you’re competitive”. Beckham is reportedly “likely” to be suspended for one game for his hit on Norman. From there things got chippy.
The NFL said in a statement: “The disqualification of a player is a judgment made by the on-field officials”. A suspension is a possibility. That TD also resulted from a flawless play call by offensive coordinator Mike Shula.
Panthers coach Ron Rivera looked grim when he faced reporters. “He is an emotional young man. He wears his emotions on his sleeve”.
That the game went from a laugher to a nail-biter was acutely disappointing to Newton.
NEWTON ON ROLL: Newton is adding to his MVP credentials with each game.
Jimmy Clausen threw for 281 yards and two touchdowns, but also had two interceptions for Baltimore. “We got to get these wins to be able to continue our season”. In 2014, he was fined $10,000 for kicking St. Louis Rams linebacker Alec Ogletree in a brawl-filled game in St. Louis.
Carolina are aiming to become the second National Football League team ever to complete a flawless season after the 1972 Miami Dolphins went 17-0, going all the way through to a Super Bowl win. Only the Dolphins won the championship, though. And he can not appear at the next Giants game Sunday night against the Minnesota Vikings.
