Update on Salvation Army Tree of Lights Campaign
The Salvation Army would like to thank its volunteers for another successful campaign.
The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Drive received a gold coin last weekend, a tradition that’s continued for many years now. That’s an increase over years past.
“The community of Springfield is so loving and generous”, Major Mike Mills said.
Salvation Army bell-ringers, who man the Christmas kettles, have not only helped others get into the Christmas spirit, but have also reminded others that it is a time to remember the less fortunate. “We still have a ways to go to reach our goal”.
“Some of the services that are going to be cut are going to be our community meals that we serve everyday from 4 p.m. – 5 p.m.”, Executive Director of Salvation Army Development Shelley Robertson said. Money raised during the campaign is used to fund programs that aid Macon County residents during the holidays and throughout the year, such as providing food and toys to families in need.
Beyond donating to The Salvation Army’s physical Christmas Kettles, donations to the 2015 Christmas Campaign can be made at FilltheKettle.com, SalvationArmy.ca, or by calling 1-800-SAL-ARMY (725-2769) or via mail to The Salvation Army, 1645 Warden Avenue, Toronto ON M1R 5B3.
Johnson says they hope to raise at least $30,000 from kettles before wrapping up on Christmas Eve Thursday.
